Mac

I'm a Mac user, and it was the first computer I connected to a mount.
This was for guiding and I used phd2 which had the drivers natively for the guide camera and I used the ST-4 cable to the auto guide port on the mount. This way no other software or communication was required and all was well.

As I got into it I figured I needed to do what everyone else is doing and get the computer to start talking to the mount directly.

I installed KStars for Mac and with EKOS it runs indi server and allows pretty much everything to join the party.

I started running into issues when the temperature dropped down below -10 and the battery on my old trusty macbook pro was not as trusty. I had to use a power cord to keep the computer alive. Close to the house this was all well and good, but with the nice open fields calling to me I had to find other ways.

A car battery and a 200W inverter was the answer. It worked, but never felt like a perfect solution. Laptop out in the cold over night... An old pelicase with a USB was serving as a very light protection.
